Semester 3| Week 2| Kindergarten

Updated: Apr 8, 2024

Tuesday

Robotics- This week we ventured into robotics with everyone creating their own robotic hand with the use of card stock, straws and yarn! It took time and patience to weave the yarn through but in the end, it was amazing to see how each finger was able to move individually or all together.

Phonics- Since it is the beginning of April, our focus for phonics this week was on our writing portfolio pages for the end of March and beginning of April.

Numeracy- Numeracy began with a fun game where one by one everyone took a turn focusing on measuring water into a pitcher using hand/eye coordination to be careful not to spill. As each classmate got closer to the top, more focus was needed to estimate how much to pour without spilling over. Everyone loved it and we must have played 3-4 rounds! The second project we took on during numeracy was creating sequencing patterns and focusing on the correct amount of colored pieces of paper needed to create the pattern in the sequence. Everyone went home with their brown, green and purple sequence chain!

Wednesday

Cooking- This week the class whipped up some peanut butter/ maple syrup, banana, and chocolate chip wraps. Each student took their time in slicing their bananas, and then spread their chosen ingredients on their wrap! We added a sprinkle of chocolate chips for some extra goodness and then rolled! After cutting them into cute, little pinwheels, we all enjoyed the delicious treat together! Sage and Layla were extra big helpers this week offering to wash the extra dishes used!

Gardening/Botany- , This week our focus was on pollinators (extended from our bats lesson last week)! There are many different bugs and other animals that are pollinators but did you know there are also natural forms of pollination?? Not only do the wind and rain help pollinate, but also plants have the ability to self-pollinate as well! Isn't nature amazing?! During our very lively, hands-on experiment/demonstration, students were able to see firsthand how pollination actually works and why its so important to protect our pollinators! With the use of paper flowers and powdered sugar, students carried their "pollen" from one plant to another! They even "pollinated" the building all the way to the bathroom, before washing their hands! Next week we plan to get outside and start construction on our milk carton igloo!!
